tassle: Traditionally attached to the center of a mortarboard with placement to right or left a matter of great importance in graduation ceremonies.
valedictorian: A graduate receiving the highest honor at any academic level, most often based on grade point average, who is also awarded the job of giving the valedictory address at commencement exercises.
vintage wine: Comprised of grapes from a single year or the greatest portion of an individual harvest, but given greater weight and a higher price because the flavors are not deemed to be of exceptional quality every year and, therefore, become "non-vintage" wines.
white gold: The equivalent of "yellow gold," which became popular when platinum was banned for private, non-war use with its coloration achieved through a higher balance of the silver-hued alloys and less of copper.
